The whole reason that we came

Today was the event that was the whole reason we came on this vacation; my brother’s new daughter was getting blessed. I can’t tell you how sweet it was to hear my big, tall, older brother give this tender blessing to his tiny little girl. He got overwhelmed by his emotions once or twice during the blessing, and every time he did, I did as well. I am grateful to have so many good men in my life. Continue reading

Chopped off eight(ish) inches

When you’re vacationing somewhere for only a few days, you want to be sure and fit in all of the best things that city has to offer. One of those things for me, is my favorite hair stylist ever, Melinda Walker. I have hair that is really thick and pretty straight, so it easily looked “chopped”, but it never looks chopped when Melinda does it. I have had several hair stylists over the years and she is still my all time favorite.  Continue reading

Travel day gets a 6 out of 10

Now that my siblings and I are all grown up and have left the nest, my parents have stepped up their backyard game quite a bit. Right now we’re sitting around their new fire pit making s’mores and it’s such a fun little set up. When did they get so fancy? Maybe they want us to come visit them more.

The kids are sleeping, and took good naps today, even though they are sleeping somewhere new. The last time we came here, Carolyn slept terribly, but so far, fingers crossed, she has been sleeping well. Feel free to cross your fingers too.

This morning on our flight, we got seated in our row and were getting settled when the captain came on the speaker telling us that we would be delayed for an hour to an hour and a half. That was mildly terrifying, I’ll admit it. Luckily they allowed us to leave the plane so we went and got some food and walked around a bit. Peter did alright on the flight, Carolyn was a ton of work and got pretty cranky by the end of it. She was way overdue for a nap by that point. At one point she started playing peek-a-boo with the people in the row behind us. She likes to make friends everywhere she goes.

After the flight we were waiting out on the curb to get picked up and Peter was running around with Marty for a bit, having a blast. Then he made the mistake of looking one way while running another, for just a moment, and slammed right into a big concrete planter. The fun was over at that point, poor little guy was wailing. He also has a nice shiner on his cheek now. I’m documenting what happened here so that no one calls CPS on me.

Both kids have loved being here with Grandma and Grandpa K, and G & G have loved seeing their grand kids. And I have loved having Marty and my parents around, so this certainly feels like a vacation for me. Three cheers for family time. 🙂

Prepping for our travels this weekend

Tomorrow we are flying to California for a couple of days to visit my family. I debated a little while back about whether to fly or drive, and flying won. I am always amazed at how much work it is to pack for just a few days when you have kids. I thought it was hard when I was single! It may be that both scenarios are hard because I am such an over packer. I hate thinking that I might not be prepared for something that might come up.  Continue reading
