Am I like the Pharisees?

General Conference was this past weekend and I have had one thought in particular swirling in my mind since then. I think we often hear what we need to hear out of conference, although maybe sometimes only what we want to hear, but this time I felt so eager to drink up whatever our leaders had to teach us. I don’t know if it stood out to everyone, or if it’s one of those lessons that I in particular needed to be learning, but I couldn’t help but come away asking if I am sometimes like a Pharisee.  Continue reading

When you feel like you’ve found your people

Tonight was New Beginnings. If you’re not Mormon, you have no idea what that is, but when the girls in our church turn 12, they go from Primary (with all the kids), to Young Women (with all the almost grown-ups). It’s a big deal. New Beginnings happens once a year to highlight and welcome all of the girls that will turn 12 that year, and if you missed it the other day, the 12 year olds is the class of girls that I am now serving overContinue reading

If my generation is choice, than my children’s must be even greater

A few weeks ago I went to a ladies night that one of my neighbors hosted. At the tail end of the night, the party had tapered down to only four of us who stayed up way past our bedtimes chatting like old biddies. All four of us there were mothers, with children ranging from babies to adults, and at one point I commented about how strong willed and stubborn I can already tell that my children are.  Continue reading

A new calling!

Last Tuesday night I got a call from the ward executive secretary asking if I could come in to meet with the bishop that night. I was pretty excited, but also nervous, because I figured the meeting meant that I would be getting a new calling. I’ve been teaching Relief Society for almost four years in this ward and I really, really love teaching.  Continue reading
